Her satin stripper shoes are fun, but don’t go at all with the saccharine pink of her dress, and her beige belt makes no sense. Love the big ass shield ring, though. Enisha Brewster’s dress mullet really really really wants to be edgy. It’s a three quarter length sleeve romper made of shiny alligator-ish skin fabric, with a stand-up collar and white canopy sheets attached to side of her hips. There is also, inexplicably, a gold butterfly! So many bad ideas crammed into one outfit. I also tend to think if your dress is already shiny, maybe try a clutch that isn’t quite as gifted at reflecting light. A wide, ruched waist like the one on Andie MacDowell’s dress is usually not very flattering. Where’s the oomph, Andie? Ashley Tisdale’s black dress and neutral pumps are not the most inspired choices for a movie premiere, but again, cute cocktail ring.

What do you guys think of fishtail hems on formal dresses? They’re kind of the mullet of dresses. On the right person, it can look edgy and tongue and cheek. On the wrong person… well, it just looks like a mullet.

After seeing this photo from a Vogue Korea August 2010 editorial featuring model Lee Hye Jung (after fawning over her beautiful eyes and that lip color), I then zoomed in on her accessories. I LOVE accessories! I mean you can basically have like 10 pieces total in your wardrobe but be a different person everyday through the proper use of accessories. The problem though with accessories is they’re often overdone. I cringe whenever I see women wearing whole jewelry sets (you know, the ones where the earrings and necklace match to a tee) together. Makes me want to scream “MIX IT UP!”. Having two or more statement-making pieces so close to each other just causes them to compete for attention. It’s almost like middle child syndrome, ya know. But what works about this look is that the rings and the necklace (when her arm isn’t raised to pose like it is in this shot) are far enough from each other that they won’t compete. Nice!

Hey everyone, Hollywood remade Footloose! Cue collective groan, both for the movie and some of the fashion at its premiere. Before we get into each individual outfit, let’s see how they they looked paired off. Up first: Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald. The previews for this movie terrify me a lot, if only because of the abundance of late 90′s, hella low-rise cut-off shorts worn by Julianne in the first twenty seconds, but here these two look really cute together. Kenny’s in formal wear and Julianne’s in formal shorts (or is it a formal romper?) which is an odd pairing, but there’s something modern about the two of them together. Maybe it’s just the super white teeth and blond hair, though. By contrast, Patrick John Flueger and Briana Evigan have a retro vibe going on that looks a teensy bit dated, but they compliment each other well, no?

Making a Wooden Pendant #1: My wood pendant process
I figured I would put this out there in case anyone was interested to know what I do to make these wooden pendants. Its not complicated. Anyone can do it with their scraps. I personally like to use burl wood but if you have less figured wood you can pair it up with contrasting colors and shapes for a nice effect. ANYWAY, Picture time. I skipped the wood selection process in the photos. I was making this one for a friend and she picked the piece, marked the spot she wanted and then I took over. Made it in about 30-40 minutes. Apple burl was the wood. That last photo is not the same pendant. She took it home with her so I didnt get to properly photograph it but that one is a bit similar. Hazel Wood for Eczema?
So, it’s been a couple of weeks, and she’s been recovery from a HUGE reaction to some nail polish she put on her skin (long story), but in any case, her skin seems to be improving! She hasn’t asked for lotion for two days (a miracle in and of itself). Has anyone else had long term success with hazel wood jewelry? It’s supposed to neutralize excess body acidity by soaking it up basically, you have to change out the necklace once it gets saturated. What do you think?

Fabric and Wood Bead necklaces
I’ve been totally inspired by all the wood jewelry I’ve been seeing. I bought an awesome wood bead necklace from Old Navy last week (and btw, when did Old Navy start selling awesome jewelry??) and was inspired to create some original new accessories of my own using wood craft beads and fabric! I started off by getting a great variety of Knit fabrics. Think Jersey and cotton Tshirt fabric. Fabrics that have a stretch and when cut don’t fray! These craft beads are perfect. They are sold in a variety pack and come in a variety of stains and sizes and are sealed and shiny! For this first version I used my rotary cutter and cut 3 long (the width of my fabric) 1 inch strips of fabric. I used a metal skewer to help guide the fabric through the beads. In between each bead I tied a knot. I then braided and knotted the ends and secured the ends with Ribbon Clasps. *******

Craftastic: DIY Jewelry Displays
What you’ll need: Cardboard Paper or Cardstock Scissors or Craft Knife Glue or Doublestick Tape Paint or fabric For Necklace Bust: 1. Draw a template on paper or cardstock, I made several of these so made my template on cardstock and it has held up very well. Cut out. 2. Trace your pattern onto your cardboard. Cut out. It’s up to you how to cover it, you can spray paint it, brush paint, or cover it with fabric or felt. I’ve done all three and they all look good. This example was brush painted with black acrylic craft paint. 3. To make the stand, cut a strip of cardboard and score three times: 1/4 inch up from one edge, 3/4 inches up from that and then half way up the remaining distance. Fold inward and attach small flap to the edge that folds down to create a triangle. Attatch to the back of your bust with glue or tape. For Bracelet/ Ring Display: 1. Trace your hand with fingers splayed and up your arm a bit onto your cardboard and cut out. Paint.

String all the beads up by sliding the ribbon through the holes using a tapestry, with 5 bigger beads at the center and 3 smaller beads on each side. If you like to space the beads in between, tie a big knot on the ribbon in between the beads. Measure the length you want for your necklace. Cut away the excess. Finally attach the jump ring and necklace clasp at the end of the ribbon. As an option, you can also leave the tail ends long and tie into a ribbon instead of installing the clasp. Freeform Beaded Necklace
I wanted to share my freeform beaded necklace I have been working on lately. I started this project with a different color palette, then changed along the way. I still need to do my finishing touches, including some fringe-work and the necklace strap. Here are two images: one has a light background and the second has a black background. What is amazing to me is that the color changes in the Swarovski crystal pendant based on the background color. Keep in mind the photos are very rough, I will bring in a photo box and lighting for the finished piece. Here is the black background: The crystal pendant, in person, appears much lighter. Similar to a light white/champagne color. Here is a better image of this cool snowflake pendant: When I am done, I will have to think carefully how to photograph this piece. Perhaps draped over some seashells or some other texture. Keep watching and I will share more pictures when it is done.

Falling Leaves Freeform Beaded Necklace
My latest freeform beaded necklace is finally finished! Inspired by the colors of fall! I have been working on this piece off and on for the past few weeks. This necklace features green & amber Toho seed bead mixes & copper leaf links from Artbeads.com . The leaves are actually real carob leaves that have been plated in copper!
